"Richard H. Merrick. 82. of Newburgh. passed away on Wednesday. August 23. 2006. at VNA Charlier Hospice Center.
Dick received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University in 1947. He was a veteran of the United States Army. serving in World War II. He retired in 1984 from Arkla Industries. where he headed the engineering department. He holds 17 patents principally related to absorption refrigeration.
After his retirement. he did consulting work in Zimbabwe and Ecuador. Dick was a member of the Evansville Country Club for more than 40 years and was known for walking and carrying his golf bag for 18 holes. He also loved the water and boating.
Dick was an astute stock market investor and followed the market all of his life. He was a member of ASHRAE and a former member of the Southwestern Comprehensive Mental Health Association.
Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years. Sally (Tuttle) Merrick of Newburgh; daughters. Susan Hooper and her husband. Marvin of Paris. Illinois. and Sara Hollin and her husband. Dana of Fishers. Indiana; a son. Stephen H. Merrick and his wife. Margery of Newburgh; two granddaughters. Kelly A. and Katie A. Merrick; and two stepgrandchildren. Matthew and Andrea Hollin". Richard H. Merrick was the engineer who designed and industrially developed the first GA. forerunner of the current Robur absorption unit.
In the nineties R. H. Merrick was been our guest; in that occasion we had the opportunity to appreciate his charismatic and smart personality.
Today we are proud of his words, that we remember with love, with which he expressed his conviction - certainly a good omen - that Robur would have been the best legacy for developing this technology that still perform with more advanced products.
