Customer Needs
The project involved the energy retrofit of the Faculty of Mechanics at Opole University of Technology. The goal was to use renewable energy technologies, even under extreme climatic conditions, to reduce both environmental impact and operational heating costs.

Robur Solution
20 GAHP A gas absorption heat pumps, installed on the building’s rooftop, powered by gas and aerothermal renewable energy. The Robur system is integrated with the district heating network. The Robur heat pumps fully cover the heating demand down to -5 °C; below that temperature, district heating provides backup.
Advantages
- The integration of Robur technology into the existing heating system significantly increased overall system efficiency (GUE 152%).
- Robur heat pumps deliver 227,000 kWh/year of renewable energy, saving approximately 42,500 m3 of gas annually.
- The GAHP A technology allowed the university to reduce its fixed connection fee to the district heating network, lowering heating costs.
- Robur’s modular solution improves operational flexibility and reliability, facilitating more effective planning and execution of maintenance activities.
- The solution requires only 17 kW of electricity, saving about 260 kW compared to an all-electric system.
- Since Robur heat pumps cover at least 90% of thermal energy demand during winter, reliance on coal-based district heating is significantly reduced. This results in a CO2 reduction of 77.2 tonnes and contributes to better air quality for the city.
